Safe Driving Starts with F.O.C.U.S.
Jun 24, 2015
Safe driving is a ongoing priority for everyone in the transportation industry, no matter whether you are sitting behind the wheel of a truck or behind a dispatch computer screen. Safety takes a total team effort.
At Autumn we are utilizing the acronym F.O.C.U.S. to remind our drivers of the importance of being mindful about safe driving. While not 100% all encompassing of every trucking hazard, using F.O.C.U.S. is a great step in the right direction towards developing safe driving habits.
F - following distance should be at least six seconds
O - observe the road ahead and anticipate hazards
C - concentrate on the task of driving and avoid distractions
U - "You" are responsible for reacting properly to hazards
S - speeds should be appropriate for the conditions
Driving a truck is a difficult job. There are many things you can't control while you are out on the road such as the weather, the driving of others and the conditions of the road. Driving with heightened F.O.C.U.S. will go a long way to making sure you as a driver achieve the most important thing of all, getting home safe to the people and places you love.
