Entrepreneurship and family values
Starting with an old-school, thirteen hole Timpte grain hopper and a vision for the future, Lowell and Beverly Rieks founded Autumn Transport in April 1980 in Lake Elmo, Minnesota. By the end of our first year we added seven more hoppers to our fleet and established Autumn as a company who understands that transporting agricultural products depends on service above all else. This concept was so important in those early days that it became our “way of thinking” and is a perfect fit with our dedication to integrity and traditional family values
The natural next step: Dispatch
As we added more trailers, the service philosophy that drove so many of our early decisions led naturally to the formation of our dispatch department early in 1981. Orderly scheduling and dispatch control are at the heart of any transport company and Autumn is no exception. The personnel we added for this important function brought years of valuable dispatch experience to Autumn and laid the foundation for what was to come.
Expansion through new divisions
Tanker Division: In April 1984, after experiencing rapid growth in our hopper fleet, we added a tanker fleet which doubled the company’s size overnight. More importantly, it gave us the capacity to serve our clients better by transporting agricultural liquids. End Dump Division: 1993 brought with it more opportunity to expand as we began our end dump division and expanded by nearly 20 trailers. Pneumatic Division: Based in part on repeated customer inquiries, we launched the pneumatic division in August of 1995 with only three trailers. Today, our pneumatic division is our fastest growing fleet with 44 trailers and counting.
We are a family owned and operated business with a commitment to treating all of our employees and operators like family. Even though we grow the fleet every year, our team takes the time to get to know each driver personally. At Autumn, we are proud to be America’s leading transport company whose primary markets are agriculture, industrial and food grade. We serve the 48 contiguous United States and Canada with well over 150 trailers that are among the newest fleets on the road, most of which are 5 years old or newer.
End Dump Division: Autumn’s end dump division is designed to give its clients flexibility at any load or unload site. Autumn operates 39 ½ foot frameless East & MAC end dump trailers that are all 4 years old or newer. The tailgate can swing open, pivot to operate as a barn door gate, or remain closed to unload through a control flow chute. Autumn hauls a vast assortment of commodities, including hazmat, and has the ability to service the contiguous 48 United States and Canada.

Hopper Division: The hopper division is the reason Autumn Transport is in business today. It started back in 1980 with a 13-hole Timpte grain hopper transporting grain to and from farms in the upper Midwest. Autumn’s many years of hopper experience, combined with 48 state and Canadian authority, enables Autumn to service customers in any location. The lightweight design of these 42 foot super hoppers allows Autumn to haul most dry bulk commodities.

Liquid Tank Division: Autumn Transport has the capacity to serve its clients better by transporting agricultural liquids in its liquid tank division. All of Autumn’s tanks are 42 foot, 6,500-7,000 gallon capacity, stainless steel, insulated tanks. They are equipped with pumps, fittings, and hoses to service all varieties of loading and unloading facilities. Most miles are traveled in the Mideastern and Midwestern states, but this operation is permitted and licensed to serve the entire United States and Canada by hauling feed-grade fats and oils, as well as some non-hazmat fertilizers.

Pneumatic Division: The pneumatic division is Autumn’s largest and fastest growing division. All of Autumn’s pneumatic trailers are 1,660 cubic feet capacity, polished, aluminum tanks. They are equipped with fittings and hoses to service all varieties of loading and unloading facilities. They also have gravity drop unloading capabilities. Tractors are equipped with high performance blowers capable of unloading your product in a timely fashion. This division is capable of servicing our customers’ needs throughout the entire United States and Canada.
